Dealing with smoke smell in clothes can be a challenging task, whether it's from a fire or lingering tobacco smoke. The odors can be stubborn and hard to eliminate with regular washing alone.
Fortunately, OdoBan® deodorizes and eliminates odors, allowing you to tackle both types of smoke smell. This guide will walk you through the steps to effectively remove smoke smell from fire-damaged clothes and clothes exposed to smoke, like tobacco or campfire smoke.
Why Does Smoke Smell Stick to Clothing?
Smoke particles are incredibly tiny and can deeply embed themselves in fabric fibers. This makes traditional washing methods insufficient for fully removing the odor. To effectively eliminate smoke smell, you need a product that can penetrate the fibers and eliminate smoke odors, such as OdoBan®.
Why Choose OdoBan®?
OdoBan® eliminates smoke odors and is excellent for fire restoration efforts. It’s also safe to use on washable fabrics when used as directed, making it a versatile addition to your cleaning supplies.
Removing Smoke Smell from Clothes Exposed to Smoke
Clothes that have been around smoke can carry a persistent smoke odor. Here’s how to effectively remove smoke smell from clothing using OdoBan®.
A few safety reminders:
- Never mix OdoBan® with any cleaning products or chemicals.
- Always use OdoBan® as directed on the label.
- Don’t measure OdoBan® with measuring cups used for food and drink.
How to Remove Smoke Smell from Outerwear without Washing
OdoBan® Ready-to-Use spray can be used to deodorize and eliminate smoke odors on coats, jackets and other clothing between washings.
- Preparation. Lay the smoke-exposed clothes on a flat, clean surface.
- Test a small area. OdoBan® is safe for use on most washable surfaces. To ensure colorfastness, test a small, inconspicuous area of clothing before treatment.
- Application. Apply a light spray onto exterior fabric surfaces evenly, ensuring to spray any areas where odors persist. Pay extra attention to areas like collars and cuffs where smoke particles tend to accumulate.
- Drying. Allow clothing to air dry completely before wearing.
How to Wash Clothes to Remove Smoke Smell
OdoBan® controls laundry malodors, softens and eliminates static cling without damaging fibers when added to the laundry rinse cycle. Here’s how to remove smoke odors from clothing using OdoBan® in the laundry.
- Wash, as normal. Wash the clothes as usual in your washing machine. Use regular laundry detergent and avoid using fabric softeners.
- Add OdoBan®. During the final rinse cycle, add 8 ounces (or 1 cup) of OdoBan® concentrate to freshen clothing and eliminate lingering smoke odors on fabrics.
- Dry. Dry the clothes immediately after washing, either by air drying or using a dryer.
- Repeat, if necessary. For stronger odors, repeat the process until the smoke smell is completely gone.
If your washing machine has fabric softener compartment (not the bleach compartment), you can add OdoBan® concentrate here before starting the load. If this compartment will not hold 8 ounces, use 4 ounces (or as much as your compartment will hold).
Removing Smoke Smell from Fire-Damaged Clothes
Fire-damaged clothes often have a strong, pervasive smoke smell that can be difficult to remove. Trusted for fire restoration efforts, OdoBan® is excellent for eliminating tough odors resulting from smoke damage. Here’s how to use OdoBan® to treat and deodorize smoke damaged clothing.
