POULTRY AND FARM PREMISE SANITATION:

SITE PREPARATION
The first step in any ongoing sanitation program should be the removal of gross contamination and debris. This may be accomplished using a shovel, broom, or vacuum depending on the area to be sanitized. The efficacy of even the most efficient germicidal cleaner is reduced in the presence of heavy organic matter. Once the debris is eliminated, sanitation can be accomplished easily.

CLEANING AND SANITIZING
For general cleaning and sanitizing, use 5 ounces per gallon of water. Apply OdoBan® use-solution using a cloth, mop, or coarse spray to thoroughly wet surface to be sanitized. Allow to remain wet for 60 seconds and let air dry. A pre-cleaning step is required. Prepare a fresh solution after each use.

APPLICATION AND USE DILUTION
Remove all animals and feeds from premises, trucks, coops, and crates. Remove all litter, droppings and manure from floors, walls, and surfaces of facilities occupied or traversed by animals. Empty all troughs, racks and other feeding and watering appliances. Thoroughly clean surfaces with soap or detergent and rinse with water. Use 5 ounces of OdoBan® per gallon of water. Saturate surfaces with the use solution for a period of 60 seconds. Ventilate buildings, coops, and other enclosed spaces. Do not house animals or employ equipment until treatment has been absorbed, set, or dried. Thoroughly scrub treated feed racks, troughs, automatic feeders, fountains and waterers with soap or detergent, and rinse with potable water before reuse. Immerse all halters, ropes, and types of equipment used in handling and restraining animals, as well as forks, shovels, and scrapers used for removing litter and manure.

HATCHERIES: Use 5 ounces of OdoBan® per gallon of water to treat hatchers, setters, trays, racks, carts, sexing tables, delivery trucks and other hard surfaces. Leave all treated surfaces exposed to solution for 60 seconds or more.

VEHICLES: Clean all vehicles including mats, crates, cabs, and wheels with high-pressure water and OdoBan®. Use 5 ounces per gallon to treat all vehicles. Leave all treated surfaces exposed to solution wet for 60 seconds.

SHOE BATHS: Shoe baths containing one inch of freshly made solution should be placed at all entrances to buildings and hatcheries. Change the solution in the bath daily or when solution appears dirty.

DRESSING PLANT USE: Clean equipment, utensils, walls, and floors in poultry and animal dressing rooms, office rooms, exterior walls, and loading platforms of dressing plants. Cover or remove all food and packaging materials. Remove all gross soils. Saturate all surfaces with 5 ounces per gallon of water. Scrub to loosen all soils. Allow to soak for 60 seconds and thoroughly rinse all wetted and cleaned surfaces with potable water.

FAQs

Q. Where can I buy OdoBan products?
Find the product, then click the "Where to Buy" expandable tab or contact customer service at 800-841-3904.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be mixed with other chemicals?
No. Mixing OdoBan concentrates with anything other than water (in accordance with directions) can be very dangerous and voids all disinfecting and sanitizing claims.

Q. Does OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) kill HIV (AIDS virus)?
Yes. OdoBan has been tested against HIV (AIDS virus) and kills the virus in 60 seconds on hard nonporous precleaned surfaces.

Q. Does OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) eliminate dust mites?
No. It is not on the label, and OdoBan may not be used in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Q. Does OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) kill some pet viruses?
Yes, OdoBan is effective against Avian Influenza virus, Avian Infectious Bronchitis virus, Pseudorabies virus, Canine Distemper virus, and Newcastle's Disease virus.

Q. Does OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) kill mold and mildew?
No. OdoBan is a mildewstat. A mildewstat controls, prevents, and inhibits mold and mildew growth, but it will not kill what is already there. To use OdoBan correctly on mold and mildew, first use a mold and mildew remover, rinse with water, then spray OdoBan on a regular basis to prevent its return.

Q. OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) is a disinfectant and sanitizer, what is the difference?
The terms, disinfection and sanitization, refer to the test methods used to determine the concentration and contact time required to reduce bacteria to a desired level. With disinfectants the test organism (bacteria) is exposed to the solution for 10 minutes (on hard surface stainless steel rings) at room temperature in accordance with the AOAC Use Dilution method to demonstrate efficacy of products intended to kill bacteria. The method requires 100% kill in 59 of 60 tests.

With Sanitizers the test organism (bacteria) is exposed to the solution for 60 seconds (on hard surface glass squares) at room temperature in accordance with the ASTM Non-Food Contact Sanitizer method to demonstrate efficacy of products intended to kill bacteria. The method requires 99.9% kill over parallel control in 5 of 5 tests.

OdoBan is also tested as a fungicide and mildewstat. With fungicides the test organism (fungi) is exposed to the solution for 10 minutes (on hard surface stainless steel rings) at room temperature in accordance with the AOAC Use Dilution Method to demonstrate efficacy of products intended to kill fungi. The method requires 100% kill in 10 of 10 tests.

Q. Will OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) disinfect laundry?
No. OdoBan will only deodorize laundry. OdoBan disinfection claims apply to hard non-porous pre-cleaned surfaces.

Q. Will OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) sterilize tools and instruments?
No. The term “sterilize” is incorrect since sterilization is a method used on critical devices (such as surgical instruments, implants, catheters, and needles) that will enter tissue or the vascular system. Chemical sterilization uses high level disinfectants (such as 2% glutaraldehyde) which will destroy or eliminate all living bacteria, fungi, and their spores when used as directed (Usually requires thorough cleaning and over 6 hours contact time at specific temperatures). OdoBan will however “disinfect” tools and instruments as directed on the label.

Q. What types of Disinfection does OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) apply to?
Disinfection is classified into three categories High, Intermediate, and Low Level. High level refers to disinfection required for semicritical items that come into contact with mucous membranes or nonintact skin. Intermediate level refers to some semicritical and noncritical items. Low level refers to noncritical items that do not come into contact with intact skin. OdoBan is a low level hospital disinfectant. Low level hospital disinfectants will destroy or eliminate the major hospital bacteria listed on the label. OdoBan is intended for use on hard non-porous precleaned environmental surfaces that come into contact with intact skin only. Barber and manicure tools are noncritical items, which may be disinfected with OdoBan.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used on animals?
No. It is not on the label, and OdoBan may not be used in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Q. Can you bathe in OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator)?
No. It is not on the label, and OdoBan may not be used in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Q. Can you clean a birdcage with OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator)?
Talk with your veterinarian about using the product and the sensitivity of your bird(s). If it is recommended, rinse cage afterwards with water, and allow to dry completely.

Q. What is the most effective deodorizing method for carpets?
One of OdoBan's features is that it cleans and deodorizes. In many cases the cause of the odor (urine, food, flood damage, sewage, etc.) requires removal. OdoBan provides the most effective odor control when using the clean/extraction method.

Q. Will OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) damage your carpet?
No. OdoBan will not damage carpet when used as directed. Note: OdoBan should not be used on fourth or fifth generation carpet due to the fact that it will void the warranty. ( Fourth Generation carpet has an application of fluorochemicals that modifies the surface tension of the fiber making nylon fibers more resistant to soils. Fifth Generation carpet has been chemically treated with acid dye resisters to block most common household food and beverage stains.) If OdoBan is accidentally applied on fourth or fifth generation carpet, rinse thoroughly with water.

Q. Can you use OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) in a carpet steamer or extraction?
You can use OdoBan in a Carpet Extraction cleaning machine, but not a Steam Cleaner. OdoBan should not be used in appliances which heat the solution. Carpet cleaning machine vessels and lines should be rinsed with water before and after using your OdoBan solution to prevent mixing chemicals from the previous use.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used on car upholstery and carpets?
Yes the same as upholstery or carpets in homes. Allow to dry before sitting on treated fabric.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be sprayed on pet bedding?
Yes. Allow to dry before allowing pets to use treated surfaces. However, the most effective and long-lasting odor control will be accomplished if the bedding material is washed after a 10-minute soak in OdoBan diluted to 32 ounces per gallon of water.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used in the laundry and, if so, how much?
Yes. 4-8 ounces per load during the final rinse to deodorize offensive odors.

Q. Does OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) act as a fabric softener when used in the laundry?
Yes. OdoBan Odor Eliminator has similar chemical properties as fabric softener and just like other softeners, OdoBan is not for use on children's sleepwear or other garments labeled as flame resistant, as it may reduce flame resistance.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used in shoes?
Yes. If the shoes are water-safe, spray shoes with 2 - 4 ounces per gallon dilution. However, if a more serious attack method is needed to eliminate the odor, wash the shoes after a 10-minute soak in OdoBan diluted to 32 ounces per gallon of water. Always allow to dry thoroughly before wearing.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator)  be used for the "Athletes Foot Fungus" in shoes?
Our label directions are for deodorizing shoes. Since shoes are not always hard and non-porous, we cannot make a disinfection claim. It would be better said, "OdoBan is an effective fungicide against Trichophyton mentagrophytes (the athlete's foot fungus) when used on surfaces in areas such as locker rooms, dressing rooms, shower and bath areas, and exercise facilities."

Q. Can you spray "dry clean only" clothing with OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator)?
No. Do not use on any surface, which is not water-safe.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used on skunk odor?
Yes. It may be used on porous surfaces such as upholstery, drapes, carpet, and hard non-porous water-safe surfaces. Do Not use on animals.

Q. Will OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator)  hurt a garden?
No. However, this is not an EPA approved use pattern.

Q. Can you spray OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) on artificial and live plants?
Yes. You may use on artificial plants made of plastic. Silk flowers may not be water-safe. OdoBan use-solutions should not harm live plants but intentional use on live plants is not an EPA approved use pattern.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used in septic tanks and holding tanks?
Yes. OdoBan is a disinfectant, therefore overuse may disrupt anaerobic bacterial digestion in a septic tank. Normally use-levels of less than one quart for each 300 gallons of waste flow is considered safe for a septic tank.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be poured into a commode or basin?
Yes.

Q. Can you use OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) in porta-potties (portable chemical toilets)?
Yes. Cover bottom of tank with water and add 3-6 oz of OdoBan. Add additional 1 2 oz as needed.

Q. Can you use OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) on an air conditioner filter (i.e. spray to deodorize through the a/c vents)?
Yes. A/C blower unit should be off when spraying filter to avoid breathing spray mist.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be used in a refrigerator to help deodorize?
Yes - use diluted @ 3-5 oz. per gallon. Higher concentrations should be avoided. Dilutions over 5 oz. per gallon may cause plastics to swell allowing OdoBan to penetrate making it difficult to rinse. Note: Food contact surfaces should be rinsed with water.

Q. Can OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) be stored in a dish used in the kitchen area (i.e. Tupperware)?
Not Recommended. A couple of reasons why this is not recommended are:

  • A container may be used for food purposes without proper cleaning.
  • Children or pets may try to drink liquid left in food containers. Note: Some plastic containers may be damaged by concentrated OdoBan. Additional Note: OdoBan should not be stored Styrofoam containers.

Q. Can you use OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) on walls and flooring, will OdoBan (The Original Odor Eliminator) eat (damage) paint or finish?
OdoBan will not damage water-safe items when used as directed. (i.e. concentrated OdoBan may damage some plastic or vinyl surfaces.)

Q. What is pH?
All water-based solutions can be measured for their pH. The pH scale, which runs numerically from 0 to 14, is used to indicate whether a solution is acid or alkaline. On this scale, a solution that has a pH from 0 to 6.9 is considered to be an acid. A solution that measures from 7.1 up to 14 on the pH scale is considered to be basic (or alkaline) in nature. A pH of 7.0 is neutral. The pH of OdoBan is approximately neutral, and its use-solutions are noncorrosive to plastic, vinyl, synthetics, enamel, tile and most common metals.

Q. How do I calculate dilutions...and why?
OdoBan is an industrial strength concentrated product designed not only to be a multi-purpose cleaner, disinfectant, and deodorizer but to be economical for the customer. Dilutions of OdoBan have been formulated and approved by the EPA and work best at the dilution ratios stated on the label.
Dilutions are either described as ounces per gallon or parts OdoBan to water.

MEASURING OZ PER GALLON:

To dilute OdoBan in oz. per gallon, measure the recommended ounces in a nonfood measuring device and fill to one gallon. Sometimes parts are easier to think about when making smaller than 1-gallon dilutions.

CALCULATING FROM OZ PER GALLON INTO PARTS:
Divide the number of ounces required on the chart into the number ounces in 1-gallon (128 oz.).
For example: 8 oz. per gallon
To determine the ratio needed, divide 128 ounces (1 gallon) by 8 ounces.
128 divided by 8 = 16

The number "16" represents the total number of parts, therefore, add 1 part OdoBan to 15 parts water.

MEASURING IN PARTS:
You can measure in any unit of measure you like, such as tablespoons, ounces, cups etc... From the calculation above, 16 is the total of any unit of measure you select. If you would like to make 16 ounces (1 pint), measure 1 ounce of OdoBan and 15 ounces of water. This gives you 16 ounces of an 8 oz. per gallon dilution. Remember the what ever unit of measure you are measuring that will be your total, for example 1 cup + 15 cups = 16 cups equal 1 gallon of 8 oz. per gallon use-solution.
The conversion table below can help.

CONVERSION TABLE TO OUNCES:
2 tbsp. = 1 fl. oz.
cup = 4 fl. oz.
1 cup = 8 fl. oz.
1 pint = 16 fl. oz.
1 quart = 32 fl. oz.
1 gallon = 128 fl. oz.

Q. I'm not sure what dilution ratio to use when the instructions are given in a range?
In the beginning, it is always best to use the least amount of OdoBan necessary for a particular application. Use higher concentrations only when you need it.

Q. How do you mix OdoBan to make the Air Freshener dilution like in the Ready-to-Use spray bottle?
A. The ratio to make the OdoBan air freshener dilution is 5:1 or 22 oz. / gallon. Let's say you want to make a 1 quart bottle. First, add 5-1/2 oz. of OdoBan concentrate. Then, fill the bottle with 26-1/2 oz. of water. This will make a quart bottle or 32 oz. Below is a mixing chart for other bottle sizes at the air freshener dilution ratio.

I have an unfinished basement and one of my cats has been using a scrap piece of carpet to urinate on. I have removed the carpet. I'm wondering if I can use Odoban on the cement.
Admin:
Yes; you certainly can use OdoBan to deodorize the cement floor.  Start out with a solution of 4 ounces of OdoBan per gallon of water.  Allow to dry.  If odor remains you may repeat, and you may wish to mix a stronger solution.  Do this in only small incremental increases, as the fragrance of OdoBan can be long-lasting, and if you find it unpleasantly strong, it is difficult to reverse the effect quickly.  You may also need a plain water rinse to remove tackiness when you use solutions of more than 4 ounces per gallon of water.

Camping World uses it so I bought a bottle for my RV and I am hooked! I did buy the concentrate from Amazon and didn't read directions.. I inhaled it while spraying it and got a burning sensation in my nose and throat. Should I seek medical attention?????
Admin:
When this happens, seek fresh air immediately, and sip some water.  You will need to seek medical attention if symptoms do not subside within a short period of time.

Love this product! I do have a question though. We had our dishwasher cleaned out and they put odoban in the trap due to some gross build up and smell. Everything is cleaned now, but I noticed after running a couple loads of dishes with our dish soap, they are smelling like odoban. This includes our children's plastic supply cups. Is it still safe to use them?
Admin:
We recommend running plain water through the dishwasher until the fragrance of OdoBan is no longer detectable.  Any dishes, especially plastics, that smell like OdoBan should be discarded.

I used the concentrated disinfectant for the first time this week. My brother bought a house that has been empty for 2years. the previous tenants had pets that left lots of messes & smells behind. We used odoban to eliminate urine smells all over the home. We also used it to remove mold & mildew that covered the entire kitchen. IT WORKED THE FIRST TIME ON EVERYTHING! I am amazed at how wonderful this product is!! It could easily replace every other cleaning product I use. hands down, the best cleaning product i've ever used. Bravo!! (and thank you) Grin

I need help my cat laid in a chair that I sprayed with odoban now he smells like it will it hurt him? His coat is dry but he smells like it what do I do?
Admin:
To remove any possible OdoBan residue on the cat's fur, have him or her bathed, or bathe him or her yourself, or use a towel or cloth and plain water to wipe down the fur. If your cat exhibits any unusual behavior, take the cat and your bottle of OdoBan to your family veterinarian.

Is this product safe to use in Daycares?
Admin:
OdoBan can be used in daycare settings when used in accordance with label directions.

OdoBan is not a food-contact surface sanitizer.  Since toddlers and babies tend to put everything they come in contact with into their mouths, we do not recommend using OdoBan for sanitizing their toys.

I help run a dog daycare and we yse odoban for all our disinfectant needs, it works great. However I was wondering if anyone knows if it kills the parvo virus?
Admin:
No.  Although OdoBan is popular with doggie daycares, veterinary clinics, and shelters, it is not labeled for use against the Parvo Virus.

Please help me I'm curious to find out if the OdoBan germ control has an expiration date? I believe I've had this longer than 2 yearsSmile
Admin:
Hi Shanel,
If the product is more than 2 years old, it is no longer guaranteed, and may have begun losing efficacy.  Look for the lot code to determine the day it was made.  The lot code looks like this: 17123C12345.  The first 2 numbers are the year, so in this example, it was made in 2017.  The next 3 numbers indicate which day of that year it was made.  So, in this case, it was made on the 123rd day.  Thanks for a great question!

I love this stuff but I want to use it to clean my carpets with it but can I mix it with the shampoo or will it clean the carpet without shampoo?
Admin:
OdoBan can be used to deodorize carpets in a carpet extraction cleaning machine.  We recommend mixing 8 ounces of OdoBan per gallon of water.  Do not use in a machine that heats the solution.  Do not mix OdoBan with anything except water.  Vessels and lines in a carpet cleaning machine should be rinsed in between changing products.  Mixing OdoBan with a carpet cleaning product may result in a sticky residue.

I need help Please? This stuff works great. Used it at my sister's house for many things. My sister and I would use Odoban for cleaning & disinfecting pack n plays, children's cots, laundry with let odors etc...My issue is,I bought 2, 2gallon bolltles of concentrated OdoBan. bottles which a a gallon in each bottle. That is concentrated. It says it makes 32 gallons. For disinfecting it says to use 5oz of water per gallon. I only want to use a small spray bottle and make a small or medium solution. The bottle does not give specific enough directions for me to go by to know how much Odoban to how much water. If I have 8oz of water how many oz of Odoban do I mix with it? Or something similar to that amount. Please help?
Admin:
Thank you for your question regarding diluting OdoBan.  The ratio for mixing a solution equivalent to the Ready-to-Use formula (or air freshener formula) is 5:1.  So, for a 24-ounce bottle, mix 2 1/2 cups of water with 1/2 cup of OdoBan.  If you want it to be strong enough to kills viruses, bacteria, and fungi, but no stronger, then you can mix just 2 ounces of OdoBan per quart of water. (That is rounded up for convenience; you really only need 1.75 ounces per quart of water.)  For more help with dilutions, see our FAQ's on the OdoBan website: http://www.odoban.com/products/odoban-concentrates.php

Grin undenialably the BEST product that I have ever used. I had a pet urine odor in a wool carpet that nothing else would remove. Used Odoban & water and sprayed the area, and the smell is gone.
Occasionally I've smoked in the house and Odoban has completely removed the cigarette odor.
Leaves a nice clean smell that lingers. I LOVE this product!

Can I use this on my wood front porch the cats like to spray
Admin:
Although OdoBan is excellent for eliminating urine odors, it is not intended for use outdoors.  Unfortunately, we do not have a product I can recommend for that purpose.

My dog to keepsee going to I nthue same spot and we take her out and we use odeban ando she keeps going in the same spots does that mean it's expired
Admin:
Pets sometimes continue their undesirable behavior, but this doesn't mean that the OdoBan is not doing its job.  It may simply mean the pet is following its usual behavioral patterns.  Nor does it mean the product has expired.  OdoBan has an indefinite shelf life as a deodorizer and can be depended on for disinfecting for about 2 years.  After the 2 years, it may gradually begin losing efficacy as a disinfectant.
